Project details

In the context of the stop of the airport construction project at Notre-Dame-Des-Landes, a project of preservation of the territory was launched by the Department in order to preserve the existing bocage landscape. Indeed, the hedges in this landscape are gradually disappearing, and globally in France, where hedges are becoming rarer since the 1960s.

In this context, the Cassia approach has produced a mapping of hedges on the entire territory of Notre-Dame-Des-Landes, 4700ha, by producing a linear plot using airborne surveys, automated processing via semantic segmentation techniques, and an expert typology defined in the field.

This project is also part of the production and feeding of the IGN’s hedge database
